Professor David Wright

“Professor David Wright passed away on June 12, 2018.  A specialist in early Christian art, Professor Wright joined the faculty at Berkeley in 1963 and taught a variety of courses on the Middle Ages until his retirement in 2009.  The Vatican Library published his The Lost Late Antique Illustrated Terence in 2006, the last of his important studies of manuscript illumination:  The Vespasian Psalter (1967), Vergilius Vaticanus: vollständige Faksimile-Ausgabe im Originalformat des Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana: commentarium (1984), The Vatican Vergil: A Masterpiece of Late Antique Art (1993), The Roman Vergil and the Origin of Medieval Book Illumination (2001).  He is survived by his wife, Georgia, an art historian; his daughter, Beth, a free-lance editor; and his sister, Janet Jones.  The obituary published in the San Francisco Chronicle may be found here:
